My ‘Flared Salad Bowl’ was one of my donated glass fused ceramic bowls for the 2011 Empty Bowls Project luncheon. It was the first one of my new line of glass fused ceramic bowls with the metallic finish and I was very excited (and a little nervous) to see how they would be received.

I used triangular shaped clay pieces in a round mold and glazed the bisque fired finished product in a dark green with matte black overlay. Step two was to apply the dichroic glass and fuse fire it. The final step was to finish it all off with a gold, bronze and copper metallic sheen.

Pretty, pretty, pretty! I was extremely happy with it but even more was surprised when it was snatched out of my hands and put on the Gallery Table with all the gorgeous $100 bowls for sale. I’m proud to say it only lasted 20 minutes on there before someone bought it!

What’s the Empty Bowls Project?

The Empty Bowls luncheon is an annual fundraiser event put on by local pottery and ceramic artists to benefit our local Tarrant Area Food Bank. Artists volunteer and donate their time to create and decorate bowls all year long to give away to ticket holders as their one-of-a-kind door prizes. Billed as an ‘Artful Luncheon to Fight Hunger’, each $40 ticket includes all you can eat for lunch and your selection of a handcrafted, hand painted artisan bowl. Proceeds from all ticket sales directly benefit the Tarrant Area Food Bank and help feed our neighbors in need.

You get to sample great lunches provided by snazzy local restaurants like Reata, Bonnell’s, Ruffino’s, La Familia, Lonesome Dove, Eddie V’s and many more, plus fabulous desserts from Nothing Bundt Cakes, McKinley’s and Panera Bread. Trust me, you will waddle away and you won’t be the least bit hungry…

You have to buy your tickets ahead of time though, there are no tickets sold at the door. Get your tickets online here at the TAFB.org site.
