Well, it’s been officially a week since I had to let my Wally go on to Heaven without me.

Guess I’m getting better, at least I don’t spontaneously burst into tears at people I don’t know anymore but I’m just a sad and sorry lady with dogs on the brain… Sigh.

So, to make myself feel a little bit better, I thought I’d post a list of my favorite dog quotes:

I Lost My Smile

I lost my smile yesterday.

I lost my sweet wonderful Walter to complications after emergency surgery. My heart is just going to be broken for awhile until I can think of him without crying.

Not much more to say other than he was the light of my life and put the smile on my face every single day for 6 years. Until yesterday when I had to let him go.

If I get to go to Heaven when I die, he had better be waiting at the gate for me or

I just ain’t stayin’!

Sleep with the Angels my Sweet Boy, Waltzilla, Big Guy, Big Fella, Sweet Babboo, My Darlin’ Darlin’. I will miss you every single day until I see you again.

Gotta go find the kleenex again.

Happy Anniversary #42

Today is the 65th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s debut, as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers, into the all white MLB .

Sitting here on the couch, watching my Texas Rangers play the Minnesota Twins, with all of the players wearing #42 on their jerseys. Very cool thing to see, especially when you consider there are players from all over the globe out there…. Japan, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, even Australia for Heaven’s sake! But thinking that without Jackie Robinson having the guts to step out onto that baseball field, we wouldn’t have had glorious sports moments from people like Ken Griffey Jr, Roberto Clemente, Wilt, Flo-Jo, Magic, MJ, Satchel or Willie, Kobe, Sammy, Emmit, Venus or Serena, Tiger or Mohammed Ali to enrich our lives.

And that would’ve been a damn shame, wouldn’t it.

Thesaurus Thursday – Troglodyte

Are you in need of a new adjective to use while driving? Something special maybe, to satisfy that primal urge we all share, to harangue some idiot driver for some real (or imagined) bit of traffic brilliance that has hindered our own cherished forward momentum?

I have a great new word for you, guaranteed to keep you safe and secure from those pesky lip reading types driving around out there, especially if you smile when you say it!

Troglodyte:

Traditionally pronounced [trog-luh-dahyt] and means:

a prehistoric cave dweller.

a person of degraded, primitive, or brutal character.

a person living in seclusion.

a person unacquainted with affairs of the world.

However, I have adapted the word to fit the context that we are discussing.

Traffic Troglodyte:

one who cannot see the gigantic blinking arrow indicating their lane is closed until they are 1/2 a car length in front of it.

One who is blissfully unaware that a ’91 Kia has no business in the fast lane.

any person who begins to merge onto a freeway by coming to a complete stop in the middle of the ramp.

the soon-to-be-completely-deaf person (below 25 usually) who bass is turned up so high that your liver has moved to the left side of your body in the 60 seconds they are stopped next to you at a red light.

See? Lots of vocabulary expanding possibilities here folks! And think of all the fun you can have driving with your kids! Now you can happily say ‘Troglodyte’ as much as you want, without fearing that glare of complete censure from the preschool teacher when your kid repeats it loudly in the morning.

Thesaurus Thursday – Dingbat

Having a well rounded vocabulary is becoming more and more important in this age of OMGs and LMAOs. Not only does it show that you have a fully functioning brain when you exercise your vocabulary skills, it proves that you managed to make it past the third grade. That’s an important distinction to cultivate among your peers these days.

So I’ve started this new feature that I call Thesaurus Thursday, to help expand your vocabulary, until you beg for mercy. But don’t panic, these will be fun, functional words that you can slip into your everyday convos without breaking a sweat.

I love silly, weird words because it just appeals to the nerd in me to find out their origins and because weird words just make me laugh. I keep imagining the looks on everyone’s faces the first time somebody whipped ‘em out in a conversation.

I give myself special extra vocab points when I find out some crazy word that I grew up thinking was just local slang has an actual Real Definition.

Case in point is today’s Thesaurus Thursday word:

Dingbat:

1. Slang an eccentric, silly, or empty-headed person.

2. Printing an ornamental piece of type for borders, separators, decorations, etc.

3. an object, as a brick, serving as a missile.

Now, using all three definitions in a sentence……

“Please don’t be a dingbat and use an unattractive dingbat when printing your business cards, as it could cause me to throw a dingbat.”
